The first overall pick in the 2013 NFL draft apparently will play right tackle to start his NFL career.

That?s what Chiefs coach Andy Reid said Thursday, given the collapse of talks regarding a possible trade of left tackle Branden Albert.

?Well, yeah, that?s right,? Reid told Bruce Murray and Rich Gannon of SiriusXM NFL Radio in response to whether Albert will play the left side and rookie Eric Fisher the right.? ?I?m gonna play the five best guys.? You saw me do that with Shawn Andrews in Philadelphia.? Shawn Andrews was as good an offensive lineman as I?ve ever seen at the college level and then he came to the pros and he was the same thing.?? He was one of the best I?ve ever coached, now, as far as being athletic and being a football player.? Well, we had two veteran tackles who were two pretty stinking good players and so we put Shawn at guard and he ended up being a Pro Bowler there.?

There?s still a chance Albert won?t be in Kansas City, but it appears that a trade to Miami won?t happen..

?We allowed Albert?s people to talk and look and do that whole thing and it didn?t work out one way or the other,? Reid said.? ?And so, you never know, I mean, in this business you?d love to say that he?d be here or not be here, one of the two, but I know he?s a good kid, I know he?s a hard worker and I know he?s a good left tackle.?? So that gives us a whole lot of flexibility and if he was here today he would be the left tackle.?? And then we go from there and we just see what happens down the road.?

Although Albert is under contract, he has opted to remain away from voluntary offseason workouts until his status is resolved.? He will earn a guaranteed salary of $9.8 million in 2013 as the team?s franchise player.? With that amount providing the starting point for talks on a long-term deal, it could be difficult for the Chiefs to extend Albert?s contract.

(AP) ? A prosecutor on Thursday portrayed Jodi Arias as a manipulative liar who stalked her ex-boyfriend and killed him in grisly fashion before courting the media spotlight in her sensational murder case.

The closing arguments by Maricopa County prosecutor Juan Martinez were punctuated by several theatrical moments as he pounded his hand on the table to emphasize his point as he ripped into the 32-year-old Arias, who is charged with first-degree murder in the 2008 stabbing and shooting death of Travis Alexander.

"This is an individual who is manipulative. This is an individual who will stop at nothing, and who will continue to be manipulative and will lie at every turn," Martinez said.

Martinez delivered his arguments to a packed courtroom, including people who lined up at 2 a.m. to get a seat in the gallery for the highly anticipated event. The defense is scheduled to deliver its arguments Friday.

Arias showed no emotion during the closing arguments, scribbling notes with a pencil most of the time. Alexander's sisters and other family members cried at various points, repeatedly dabbing their tears with tissues.

The judge earlier provided instructions to jurors that allowed them to consider the lesser charge of manslaughter, along with first-degree and second-degree murder. That means the jury will essentially have four choices: first-degree murder, second-degree murder, manslaughter or acquittal.

First-degree can lead to a death sentence and requires the jury to believe it was a premeditated act. The basic standard for second-degree murder is that the defendant intentionally caused the death of another person. Manslaughter has a much lower standard and potential sentence.

Authorities say Arias planned the attack on Alexander in a jealous rage after he wanted to end their relationship and prepared for a trip to Mexico with another woman. Arias initially denied any involvement in the killing then later blamed it on masked intruders. Two years after her arrest, she said she killed him in self-defense.

Martinez worked to build his first-degree murder case by providing examples in which he says Arias planned out her attack weeks in advance. He said she stole the .25 -caliber gun used in the attack from her grandparents' home where she was staying in Yreka, Calif., two days after a heated text-message exchange between Arias and Alexander. In that exchange, Alexander described her as a "sociopath" and "evil."

"How absolutely prophetic," Martinez said.

Arias' lies and peculiar behavior, meticulously creating an alibi to avoid suspicion within hours of Alexander's death, have been at the heart of the prosecution's case. Arias said she was too scared and ashamed to tell the truth at the time and didn't want to sully Alexander's name by revealing their raunchy sex and his violent episodes. Alexander was a Mormon and portrayed himself to friends and family as a virgin and devout follower of the faith who was saving himself for marriage.

Arias says Alexander had grown physically abusive in the months before she killed him, once even choking her into unconsciousness, but she kept seeing him because she was in love.

However, there has been no evidence or testimony during the trial to corroborate her stories that Alexander was violent or owned a gun ? the very gun she used to shoot him.

The defense has portrayed Alexander as a cheating womanizer who used Arias for sex and abused her physically and emotionally.

Prosecutors have depicted Arias as an obsessed ex-girlfriend who couldn't come to grips with the ending relationship and Alexander's desire to see other women.

Alexander suffered nearly 30 knife wounds, was shot in the forehead, and had his throat slit. Arias' palm print was found in blood at the scene, along with nude photos of her and the victim from the day of the killing.

She said she recalls Alexander attacking her in a fury after a day of sex. She said she ran into his closet to retrieve a gun he kept on a shelf and fired in self-defense but has no memory of stabbing him.

Arias' grandparents reported the .25-caliber handgun stolen from their Northern California home about a week before the killing ? the same caliber used to shoot Alexander ? but Arias said she didn't take it. Authorities believe she brought the gun with her to kill the victim. It has never been found.

Arias has acknowledged trying to clean the scene of the killing, dumping the gun in the desert and working on an alibi, even attending a memorial service for Alexander before her arrest in July 2008.

HTC One HDR microphone disappears from spec sheet after Nokia injunction (updated)

HTC One HDR Mic dropped from spec sheet after Nokia case

We've wondered what HTC would do after a Dutch court banned it from using HDR Microphones in its oft-delayed One handset, and now we know. It looks like the company has now nixed references to the Nokia-developed component on its website, raising the possibility that the handsets currently being manufactured have HTC's "improved" microphones rather than the original STMicroelectronics unit on board. None of this should affect phones that are already on the market, but we've reached out to HTC to find out what this means for future One owners and will let you know more when we do.

[Thanks, Ted]

Update: HTC has reiterated its position (after the break) saying that the company is entitled to use its remaining supplies of STM's HDR Microphones until they run out.

Japan manufacturing, hiring rise in March

TOKYO (AP) ? Japan manufacturing and employment showed slight improvements in March, buttressing hopes that the economy may be headed for a moderate recovery.

Factory output rose 0.2 percent, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said Tuesday, in the fourth straight monthly increase. It pointed to strength in chemicals, electrical components, telecommunications equipment and steam turbines.

Unemployment edged lower to 4.1 percent from 4.3 percent in February, while household spending rose 5.2 percent in real terms from a year earlier. Such spending accounts for about 60 percent of Japanese economic activity.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has raised government spending and pushed for aggressive monetary easing to help extricate the economy from chronic deflation.

The central bank, which has committed to achieving 2 percent inflation within two years, says it expects a moderate recovery by midyear but has warned that uncertainties in the domestic and global economies could foil those hopes.

Critics of the "Abenomics" strategy question whether the extra funding pumped into the economy will foster sustainable growth or just push up prices for shares and other assets.

Key to the success of the policies will be increased spending by households and corporations, partly due to expectations that prices will rise. So far, increases in spending have been attributed mainly to luxury purchases by share investors splashing out after seeing gains in their portfolios. The Nikkei 225 stock benchmark has risen nearly 28 percent in the past three months.

But a more robust recovery would depend on wage increases to boost household purchasing power, and on higher employment.

So far, consumer prices have remained flat or fallen, with core inflation excluding food prices dropping 0.5 percent in March.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications reported that job availability improved in March, with 86 jobs offered for every 100 job seekers. The rate was 82 for the fiscal year that ended in March, up from 68 the year before, it said.

Job cuts occurred in manufacturing, finance, information technology and logistics, while the biggest gains were in health care, construction and education.

The number of male workers fell while the number of female workers rose, suggesting companies are likely relying on part-time employees to meet any increases in demand.

Japan's real estate sector has also shown glimmers of a rebound, as property developers knock down older homes built after World War II to rebuild on suburban properties.

Housing starts rose a higher-than-expected 7.3 percent year-on-year in March for the seventh straight month of increase, the government reported Tuesday.

SkitIf ?Skit had existed in the early 1970s, there is a chance that the career of Monty Python's Terry Gilliam could have been stunted because Skit can produce videos reminiscent of the aforementioned great one's seminal work.
