Senate President Raye running for U.S. Congress

AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Republican Kevin Raye, who is now serving as President of the Maine Senate, announced Thursday he is running for Congress in the?2nd District.

Ten?years ago Raye ran for that same seat and lost out to Democrat Mike Michaud who has held that seat ever since.

Besides his experience in state politics raye also served in Washington as Senator Olympia Snowe's Chief of Staff.

Raye has he has been putting out feelers about running the past several months and has received a great deal of support.

"I've decided that kind of support combined with the tremendous issue that we face as a country are reason enough for me to run for congress. I've heard from so many people who are so disappointed and discouraged with a Congress and Washington that they believe is broken, polarized and bitter", he said.?

Raye says he'll make a formal announcement about his intentions within the next few weeks.
