Biblical Worldview: The Importance of Christian Higher Education ...

Why is a Biblical Worldview vital in today?s society?

According to a collection of surveys lead by the Barna Research Groups, they have determined only 9 percent of North Americans have a Biblical worldview. More worrying, the study discovered that those labeled ?born again Christians,? were only 2 times as likely as the average adult to maintain a Biblical worldview. That meant that even born again Christians, less than one out of every five (19%) had such an outlook on life. The deficiency of a Biblical worldview and folks befriending a secular worldview is causing devastating effects; injured families, failed leaders, unethical enterprises, and the list grows. For Christians to be effective, it is important to understand worldview so we can grow in our loyalty to the truth and so we can have an effect on for Christ in a good way those we have interaction with in our spheres of influence.

How does Christian Education affect the Biblical worldview?

Biblical worldview integrated into education is what makes education ?Christian education?. A Biblical worldview is based upon the Word of Our Lord. When you suspect the Bible is entirely true, and it?s the foundation of everything you say and do, that?s your worldview, and it's a Biblical one. That suggests, for instance, you take seriously the mandate in Romans 13 to honor the governing authorities by complying with the law, submitting to your supervisor at the workplace, for example. Here is the big problem. Non-biblical worldview ideas don?t just sit in a book somewhere waiting for folk to examine them. They barrage us constantly from television, film, music, newspapers, magazine, books and academia. Because we are living in a narcissistic, fallen world, these ideas seductively appeal to our flesh, and we often end up combining them into our personal worldview ? often without even knowing it. So in Christian education we are renewing the student?s mind in all the disciplines by providing a Biblical worldview through their schooling experience.

Proper Integration is the Key

The key is if it is correctly integrated thru all the disciplines. The task of integrating Biblical worldview in the classroom is the quintessence of the Christian scholar?s calling. The 3 necessary components of Christian worldview integration at the course level are: (1) the facility to connect the course material to the student?s non secular formation (private integration), that is, it should contribute to the student?s embrace of Jesus as Lord over all things; (2) how the course material contributes to the student?s Christian belief structure, and (3) the way in which the course makes a contribution to the student?s deeper knowledge of how information is discovered within the discipline, and in what tactics Christianity makes a contribution to the dialogue about the discovery of knowledge in that discipline. At Grace Bible College, we take seriously the incontrovertible fact that our curriculum is written with a particularly Biblical worldview, and that our faculty receives training in Biblical worldview; furthermore, we see the effects as we monitor the graduates from our ministry degree online and on campus.
