AUGUSTA, Ga. -- A former insurance employee from Augusta has been charged with felony insurance fraud.

Tammy Self, 39, was arrested on Oct. 25. She is accused of taking premium dollars for workers' compensation insurance policies that were not bound by an insurance company. Investigators say Self would take money from a business owner saying they would get workers' compensation insurance coverage and then give them a bogus certificate as proof of coverage.

Self was a licensed insurance agent and had been in business for over 10 years. She was working at Kilpatrick Insurance Agency in Augusta.

The investigation was conducted by the Georgia State Board of Workers' Compensation's Enforcement Division.

If you are a business owner who has purchased workers' compensation insurance through Self and think you may have been victimized, you can call the State Board of Workers' Compensation's Enforcement Division at (404) 657-7285 or (800) 533-0682.
